Couperose
What is Couperose?
Couperose or facial tread veins is a localized facial skin growth in number and diameter of small veins (“Telangiectasia”). Especially at the level of cheeks, chin and nose wings. These tiny veins or tread veins give rise to a local redness and slowly grow out into a cosmetic damaging condition. The only way to treat this state and get relief is a medical one.

How do they develop?
How Couperose really develops is not exactly know. In some cases we find hereditary backgrounds in other chronic forms of Rosacea, a much seen inflammatory state of the facial skin. However in the majority of cases we find no underlying causes. What we know is that intense ultra violet sunlight, extreme warmth or cold and stormy weather skin exposure together with alcohol abuse are important risk factors. Couperose is more commonly seen in woman above 35 years. Pale skin types are more prone, but all skin types can develop this condition.

How is this treated?
It is now possible to treat Couperose with a Point-laser or through Thermocoagulation. These are simple and nearly painless procedures. A session will take up to 20 minutes. You will need 2 to 3 treatment sessions all depending on your response and the desired result. The first 48 hours the treated area will show some extra redness and small scabs will develop. These will spontaneously fall of after a small period of time. The final result is visible after 4 weeks. Also the moment for a follow-up visit and if necessary a new treatment session.
